Yo Gang! Since 2018, Escape the City Festival has been bringing together sound system culture, art, and community on the beautiful shores of Barbariga, Croatia. Hosted by Sub Movements Association, this gathering is all about keeping it independent, grassroots, and full of heart—connecting local and international artists, celebrating creativity, and building a conscious and joyful way of life.
We stay true to our alternative, non-mainstream roots, creating a space where young artists share the stage with legends, where families and free spirits come together, and where the music and the people make the vibes pure magic.
Last year was sold out, and this year? We’re making it even better, and bass-heavier! Get ready for another 5 days of sun, sea, and sound, where we come together to dance, connect, and create lifetime summer memories.

At ETC, we celebrate Soundsystem Culture in its full glory! Over the years, we’ve hosted a range of local and international artists like Aba Shanti-I, Gussie P ft. Errol Bellot, Nick Manasseh, Kibir la Amlak, Roberto Sanchez, Jah Chalice, Sista Habesha, and many more.
Join us at the Beach stage, Main stage, and Fever stage! From Roots & Culture to live Dub, and genres like cumbia, funk, drum & bass, and world music.
Workshops
ETC isn’t just about music; it’s about inspiring, educating, and elevating. Join us to broaden your horizons and connect with the community. We’ve collaborated with local associations to offer a variety of workshops:

Circus
Why do the Croatian sound system and circus scene go hand in hand? We’re not sure, but we love it! This unique blend has become a local phenomenon. We’ve been spinning tunes for our local harlequins and acrobats since the start of ETC.
Expect performances from Cirkultura, Navodno Oslobodilački Cirkus, Cirkus Nit, and many international fire-benders and knife-spinners at our summer residence in Barbariga.

This exclusive festival program offers creative workshops, treasure hunts, circus skills, and outdoor games for our youngest attendees.
Our mission is to let kids thrive away from screens, fully immersed in nature, enjoying the exhilarating play we cherished before the Internet. We aim to create a magical space where kids can make new friends, express themselves creatively, explore music, and engage in social games, all supervised by seasoned kindergarten and school professionals.

DUB TALK
Founded as a space to reason, learn, and connect—our Dub Talks are all about understanding the culture behind the music. This special session brings together legends, selectors, producers, and cultural activists to share their journeys, talk about the evolution of reggae & dub, and explore the roots and future of sound system culture. Previous editions featured pioneers like late Ras Muffet, Gussie P, and Nick Manasseh, offering firsthand insights into the music that moves us.
How to reach us?
Barbariga is a charming seaside village near Vodnjan, easily reachable by car, bicycle, bus, or plane.
The nearest major city is Pula, offering excellent connections to both national and international bus routes.
Nearest Airports & Travel Times:
- Pula (PUY) – 20 min drive
- Rijeka (RJK) – 1.5-hour drive
- Trieste (TRS) – 1.5-hour drive
- Venice (VCE/TSF) – 3-hour drive
All these airports are served by low-cost airlines and offer convenient connections across Europe, including the UK, Germany, France, Belgium, Spain, and Poland.
